HUI-YI LEE

             Hui-Yi Lee 李慧怡 is a Full-time Assistant Professor at National Tainan University since 2023. She was the Principal Horn of the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra from 2018 to 2023. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Hui-Yi won the First Prize in the 2007 Taipei Horn Solo Competition and the First Prize in the National Woodwind Chamber Competition in 2010.  She received her Bachelor of Music degree at the National Taiwan Normal University under the instruction of Steve Chuang 莊思遠, and Master of Music degree at the Boston University in 2013. After graduation, Hui-Yi extended her studies for Performance Diploma at the New England Conservatory where she studied with Richard Sebring and Johnathan Menkis. In 2021, Hui-Yi completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Boston University under the tutelage of Professor Eric Ruske. 

 

                 In the United States, Hui-Yi was invited to perform with the Sarasota Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, New World Symphony. During the summers she has participated as a fellow in the Spoleto Festival USA, Aspen Music Festival, and Asian Youth Orchestra. From 2016 to 2018, Hui-Yi was the horn fellow of the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland. The numerous world-class conductors that she worked with include Paavo Järvi, Iván Fischer, Christoph Eschenbach, Michael Tilson Thomas, Antonio Pappano, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Gianandrea Noseda, Valery Gergiev, Gabor Takacs-Nagy, and Charles Dutoit.

          

             During the time of the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra, Hui-Yi has performed Mozart's Horn Concerto K447 and held Principal Close-Up Horn Recital in 2022.  Ms. Lee has cooperated with professional orchestras including Macao Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and KBS Symphony Orchestra as a guest principal horn. After moving back to Taiwan, Hui-Yi has performed with National Symphony Orchestra and Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan, Hong Kong Philharmonic and Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In 2024 summer, She has toured with KBS Symphony Orchestra of South Korea for the 20th Chopin and His Europe festival as a guest principal horn.
